In therapeutic practice, Pat employs a variety of evidence-based modalities, such as CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness, stress and resilience training, interpersonal and relationship therapy, and trauma-focused EMDR therapies. Pat has a particular interest and expertise in working with individuals experiencing depression, low mood, anxiety issues, low self-esteem and confidence, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and those overcoming trauma. She has experience in working with a wide variety of difficulties, including anxiety, OCD, emotional and mood difficulties, confidence and self-esteem issues, PTSD, complex trauma and psychosis. Helen’s approach is broadly integrative, drawing on her training in CBT and EMDR. She is also influenced by compassion focussed therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy, as well as somatic approaches to working with trauma. She brings an empathic and collaborative approach to her work, and believes that building a safe, non-judgmental therapeutic relationship is a crucial part of therapy. She especially enjoyed leading interactive team workshops that taught key psychological skills and encouraged players to reflect on performance and mindset. Her specialty is helping players navigate challenging phases in their careers—injuries, fear of re-injury, lost tournaments, dips in motivation, non-selection, and contractual uncertainty—transforming doubt and anxiety into renewed confidence and drive. Her interests include trauma-informed practice, attachment-based formulations, and the integration of third-wave cognitive-behavioural approaches (including Schema Therapy, ACT and EMDR-informed interventions) within sport, exercise, and health contexts.  Valentina works closely with multidisciplinary teams, including coaches, physiotherapists, osteopaths, and other health professionals. Through her applied practice, academic work, and ongoing professional development, she is committed to supporting people—athletes and non-athletes alike—in developing sustainable performance, psychological flexibility, and a balanced, meaningful relationship with movement and health.</image:caption>
