Performance enhancement EMDR sessions

A series of six personalised sessions were designed to support athletes by either reinforcing moments of success or desensitising experiences of doubt and defeat. Using mixed-methods approaches, this programme evaluates the effectiveness, efficiency, and overall experience of the following interventions:

  • increases confidence, self-efficacy, motivation

  • tailored to players’ experiences “best moments in their career”

This is for athletes and coaches (academy level to 1st team, solo or team sports, all performance-levels) who would like to make the best of their previous successes and achievements, by intensifying moments of success.

It's an evidence-based enhancement-technique that increases your

  • Confidence

  • Self-efficacy

  • Motivation & resilience

  • The belief in yourself and your abilities

  • The tolerance to handle stress and disappointment

  • Thereby ultimately impacting your performance

These psychological traits impact, and transfer to, your training sessions and during game-day. This is for athletes who feel they can benefit from a motivational boost, or, who experience a dip in motivation, performance, confidence, and self-doubt. These techniques have been tested with professional athletes.

You will receive 6 personally-tailored EMDR sessions to intensify and re-live your best moments of success in sports.

Performance improvement EMDR sessions

You will receive 6 personally-tailored EMDR sessions to let go of doubt, negative spirals of worry, memories of defeat, feeling stuck, physical and psychological symptoms of anxieties, and to forgive yourself for the mistakes made.

  • decreases somatic & cognitive anxieties, embodied fear & physical performance blocks

  • tailored to players’ experiences of injuries, fear, defeat, failure.

This is for athletes and coaches (academy level to 1st team, solo or team sports, all performance-levels) who have experienced difficulties on the pitch (training or game-day), with the team, or whilst otherwise engaging with their sport.

You might be experiencing

  • Reduced confidence, motivation and well-being

  • Doubt, anxieties, low mood and excessive worrying

  • Dwelling on poor performance, past mistakes and disappointing outcomes

  • Tension, trouble sleeping, changes in appetite

Difficulties and challenges are part and parcel to being an athlete, it's the management thereof that determines your mindset, well-being, and performance in training and on game-day. We offer evidence-based techniques to help you let go of the difficulties you have encountered, thereby positively impacting your identity as an athlete, mood and motivation, and subsequently your performance. These techniques have been tested with professional athletes, some of which had carried the trauma of injury, defeat, and poor performance for decades.

Post-injury Psychological First aid

EMDR sessions to overcome trauma of injuries, time off playing, concerns around return-to-play, and potential changes to career.

The experience of an injury, along with subsequent lengthy treatment and uncertainties, can be drastic and we are here to support you. You will receive 4 personally-tailored EMDR sessions to help you cope with the event of the injury itself, guide you through uncertainties in terms of recovery and contractual issues, and to overcome the psychological and physiological implications listed above. These techniques have been tested with professional athletes. Injuries addressed can be recent ones, as well as older injuries that still exert negative effects and hinder your flow and performance

This is for athletes (academy level to 1st team, solo or team sports, all performance-levels) who have been injured, and who are faced with the psychological and physiological aftermath of that injury:

  • Fear of re-injury, which can be all-consuming and disruptive to natural flow and movement, sleep and well-being

  • Adaption of a ‘’protective posture’’, the body’s natural response to an injury yet it undermines your ability to move freely and express your full-potential on the pitch

  • Somatic and cognitive anxieties, hindering movement and confidence

  • A tangible tension, which actually increases the chances of future injuries

  • Consequently, you might be experiencing threats to your sporting career, due to a prolonged time out of training, not being able to ‘’show your potential’ to scouts and clubs, your current contract not extended, and / or a potential career termination

Dr Tanja Simone - Sport and Exercise Psychologist

____

Tanja’s sport psychology work is deeply rooted in football. As part of the academies at Fortuna Düsseldorf (2014–2018) and FC Ingolstadt 04 (2018–2020), she supported U16–U23 players and coaches through performance training, mental-skills workshops, session observations, and training camps. She especially enjoyed leading interactive team workshops that taught key psychological skills and encouraged players to reflect on performance and mindset.

Her specialty is helping players navigate challenging phases in their careers—injuries, fear of re-injury, lost tournaments, dips in motivation, non-selection, and contractual uncertainty—transforming doubt and anxiety into renewed confidence and drive.

Tanja also contributed to a sport-psychology collective supporting DSC Arminia Bielefeld in maintaining 1st-league status. Alongside practice, she completed a PhD evaluating the use of EMDR in professional football academies, becoming one of the first to study EMDR in this context. One of her EMDR programmes focuses on enhancing motivation, confidence, and self-esteem by strengthening players’ memories of success.

Since 2014, Tanja has been an accredited Sportpsychologischer Expertin (ASP/BISp). She serves on the board of the Verband der Praktischen Sportpsychology and is a RAPPS-listed supervisor with the British Psychological Society, guiding trainees toward becoming the next generation of sport psychologists.
